Reliance Consumer Products expands into ice cream with Bombay Creamery

Reliance Consumer Products has expanded its presence in India’s fast-growing FMCG and food sector with the launch of Bombay Creamery, marking its entry into the country’s highly competitive ice cream market.

The new brand will offer consumers a diverse range of products across cones, cups, tubs, bars and sticks, with prices starting at Rs 10. The portfolio and pricing are designed to give the brand a presence across different consumer segments, from everyday value purchases to more premium consumption occasions.

Bombay Creamery has made its initial entry in western India, with Reliance Consumer Products planning to gradually extend its availability to markets across the country in the coming months.

The launch strengthens Reliance’s expanding consumer goods portfolio, which includes Campa, Independence and a growing selection of snacks, confectionery and other packaged food products.

The company’s move into ice cream comes at a time when the category is witnessing increasing consumer demand and intense competition. Major domestic brands such as Amul, Vadilal Industries, Mother Dairy and Arun Icecreams have established strong positions, while international brands including Magnum and Baskin-Robbins and several regional manufacturers continue to compete for consumers.

Reliance’s entry could add further momentum to the competitive landscape, particularly given the company’s ability to leverage its large distribution network, retail presence and scale across consumer markets.

The company has previously expanded aggressively into established categories, most notably telecom through Jio and beverages through the revival and expansion of Campa. Its approach has often centred on combining broad distribution with competitive pricing to build scale quickly.

India’s ice cream industry has also benefited from increasing disposable incomes, changing consumption patterns, premiumisation and the expansion of cold-chain infrastructure. Growing availability in smaller cities and towns is further creating opportunities for brands to expand beyond traditional urban markets.

With Bombay Creamery, Reliance is entering a category that combines mass-market demand with growing opportunities in premium and differentiated products. The planned nationwide expansion could significantly increase competition among both established and emerging ice cream brands.

The launch marks another step in Reliance Consumer Products’ strategy to build a broader presence across everyday consumer categories, as it continues to expand its portfolio and reach across India.
