The EMFAI Sustainable Mobility Summit 2024, held on 7th August in New Delhi, brought together industry leaders, policymakers and experts to discuss the future of electric mobility in India. The summit was graced by Kailash Gahlot, Minister of Transport, Government of Delhi, as the Chief Guest, who highlighted the remarkable progress Delhi has made in the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs).
In his address, Gahlot attributed the success of Delhi’s EV policy to the enthusiasm of its residents. He noted a significant increase in EV penetration in the capital, with EVs accounting for 20 per cent of total vehicle sales in March 2024, compared to just five per cent before 2020.
He also emphasised on the growth of EV charging infrastructure in Delhi, which now boasts over 4,600 charging points, and called upon neighbouring states like Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh (UP) to enhance their EV charging infrastructure to support broader adoption.
The summit, that saw more than 250 participants, featured several insightful sessions, including a spotlight discussion titled “Where are we on the electric mobility journey and where do we need to go? Experiences with policy and finance,” which saw a thought-provoking conversation between Mahua Acharya, CEO, International Energy Transition Platform and Former CEO, CESL, Government of India and S Raman, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.
Speaking about the summit, Sameer Aggarwal, President, Electric Mobility Financiers Association of India (EMFAI), said, “EMFAI was created with one vision in mind – to increase the adoption of EVs in India. The purpose behind this summit is to ensure that the various ecosystem participants can collaborate with financers and create a way in which we can scale EV adoption in India, and at the same time, mitigate all the risks that come along with financing of EVs.”
There were three panel discussions as well that provided a deeper dive into the challenges and opportunities in the EV sector. The panels covered topics such as “Financing Mobility and the Ecosystem: What have we learnt in five years?”, “Manufacturing and Financing: Getting the Linkages Right,” and “Why is mid-mile a different segment?” These discussions offered valuable insights into the current state and future course of the EV industry.
A special session shed light on the potential of transforming the tourism industry in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) through the adoption of EVs, underscoring the regional opportunities in sustainable mobility.
The organising committee included members from Revfin, Prest Loans, Mufin Green finance, AMU Leasing, Akasa Finance, along with B2B | The Founder.
The summit concluded with the Transformational Leadership in Sustainable Mobility Awards, celebrating the achievements of those leading the way in the EV sector.
