Zomato launches ‘District’ App, expands focus on “Going-Out” business

FoodTech company, Zomato has officially launched its ‘District’ app on Android and iOS, marking a pivotal expansion in its “going-out” business. This rollout comes over three months after the app was initially announced and highlights Zomato’s efforts to diversify its offerings and solidify its position in the dine-out and entertainment booking segments.

The ‘District’ app is designed to provide a seamless experience for users, enabling restaurant reservations and bookings for events such as movies, sports and live performances. Zomato has ambitious plans for its going-out segment, aiming to make it the third-largest business in its B2C portfolio.

Deepinder Goyal, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said, “We are banking on our profitable dine-out business, which is operating at a run-rate of more than $500 million annualised gross order value.”

The launch follows several recent innovations from Zomato aimed at staying ahead of its competitors. These include the introduction of the ‘Book Now, Sell Anytime’ feature on its main app, which allows users to purchase event tickets in advance and resell them if needed, and the launch of the ‘Food Rescue’ feature to reduce food wastage by selling cancelled food orders.

Zomato’s growth trajectory continues to impress. The company reported a 389 per cent surge in net profit, reaching Rs 176 crore in Quarter Two Financial Year 2025 (Q2 FY25), up from Rs 36 crore in the same period last year. Operating revenue also grew significantly, climbing 68.5 per cent to Rs 4,799 crore compared to Rs 2,848 crore in Quarter Two Financial Year 2024 (Q2 FY24). Its quick-commerce arm, Blinkit, has also contributed to this robust performance.

As Zomato continues to innovate and expand its portfolio, the ‘District’ app is poised to become a key driver for its going-out business, enhancing customer experiences and further strengthening its market position.
