upGrad Co-Founder and former OYO leader partner to launch BorderPlus, global job platform

Mayank Kumar, Co-Founder, upGrad and Ayush Mathur, Former President, OYO Europe, have introduced BorderPlus, a platform designed to connect blue-collar workers from India with global job opportunities. The initiative will initially target the healthcare sector in Germany and gradually expand to industries such as hospitality, retail, teaching, construction, logistics and trucking. The company also plans to explore opportunities in other countries in the near future.

BorderPlus has started with a pilot batch of around 10 candidates and is set to scale quickly. Training programmes, ranging from six to nine months, will be delivered in online, blended or offline formats. The final phase will involve offline sessions, emphasising language learning and cultural adaptation. The first training centres have been established in Pune and Mumbai, with additional locations planned across India for final-stage training.

To enhance the language-learning process, BorderPlus is developing an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven conversational bot using OpenAI’s technology. This tool will enable candidates to practice spoken languages interactively. The programme costs Rs 2 lakh per candidate, but the amount will be reimbursed as scholarships or relocation assistance upon their successful placement in Germany.

Kumar highlights the challenge of teaching foreign languages like German to young adults and creating trust for an Indian brand in European markets. Mathur, drawing on his OYO experience, noted the demand for blue-collar workers in Europe, especially for roles like housekeeping in Denmark and Germany.

BorderPlus adopts a unique training model, with 70 per cent of the programme dedicated to language training, 20 per cent to cultural preparation and 10 per cent to technical skills.
